Severe thunderstorm watch

Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and damaging hail

A severe thunderstorm warning that had been in effect for the Midland area has ended.

As of 3:52 p.m., the thunderstorm capable of producing strong wind gusts and up to nickel size hail has passed our area and is located near Severn Falls, moving east.

However conditions remain favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and damaging hail.

A severe thunderstorm watch is now in effect for our area.

"Severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening with an approaching cold front," Environment Canada said.

"Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Locally heavy rain is also possible. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops."
