Strongest winds recorded were along Lake Michigan

WEST MICHIGAN — A WIND ADVISORY and a GALE WARNING took effect today for much of West Michigan and parts of Lake Michigan. Lots of areas reported wind gusts over 45 mph. A few isolated areas even had gusts over 55 mph! According to Consumers Energy's website, over 30,000 customers are without power at of 5 P.M. Saturday.

The WIND ADVISORY had been issued until 2 P.M. today for Oceana, Newaygo, Mecosta, Muskegon, Montcalm, Ottawa, Kent, Ionia, Allegan, Barry, Eaton, Van Buren, Kalamazoo and Calhoun Counties. Allegan, Muskegon, and Ottawa coutnies experienced the strongest winds as the cold front swept in off of the lake.

The strongest winds peaked between 10:45 A.M. and 1:15 P.M., as NWS Grand Rapids reports indicate! Grand Rapids airport recorded the strongest gust at 59 MPH! Winds are continuing to decrease into this evening, but won't go completely calm for the foreseeable future. Winds will gust up to 25 mph on Sunday, and up to 20 mph on Monday.
