Beyoncé and her daughter Blue Ivy are teaming up together to star in Mufasa, Disney's live action prequel to 2019's The Lion King.

Revealed in a new teaser trailer today (April 29), the Barry Jenkins-directed film will hit cinemas on December 20, 2024. The synopsis explains that the film "enlists Rafiki to relay the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa lending their signature schtick."

Alongside Blue Ivy Carter and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, the film also features the return of Donald Glover (Simba), Seth Rogen (Pumbaa), Billy Eichner (Timon), and John Kani (Rafiki), with Aaron Pierre (Mufasa), Kelvin Harrison Jr. (Taka), Mads Mikkelsen (Kiros) and Thandiwe Newton (Eshe) joining the cast.

Speaking to ABC's Good Morning America, Jenkins says, "Beyoncé is this larger-than-life figure, but when she's working with her daughter, when she's in the room with her daughter, she's a mom first. So much of that energy bled into the film."

Jenkins explained that the mother-daughter duo brought out their relationship in their performance.

"I think for them, too, they just approached it that they both wanted to perform and do the best they could," he says. "And yet, they didn't have to pretend very much because they really are mother and daughter. I was so glad that both Beyoncé and Blue Ivy were down to do it, and watching them work together was just really special."
