Public Service Announcement: Heat Warning Issued for Niagara ...

Lincoln, ON – (July 25, 2023) – Environment Canada has issued a Heat Warning for the Niagara region, with hot and humid conditions forecasted for Wednesday, July 26, 2023 through Friday, July 28, 2023.

Temperatures on Wednesday are expected to reach 30 degrees Celsius. Thursday, while slightly cooler, will be very humid with humidex values in the upper thirties. Friday is expected to be extremely hot with humidex values reaching 40 for many areas. Minimum temperatures in the low twenties will provide little relief from the heat. Cooler temperatures are expected Saturday.

Please note: Areas near the lakes could be slightly cooler than regions further inland. As of July 25, Charles Daley Park is noted as safe for swimming according to Niagara Region's Beach Water Testing Results. Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high risk category. The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.Cooling Spaces:
