Christie Brinkley diagnosed with skin cancer

(CNN) – Christie Brinkley said she was diagnosed with and treated for the most common form of skin cancer.

The model, actress and entrepreneur shared the news of her diagnosis on social media.

She said she asked about a dot on her skin at the end of her daughter’s medical appointment.

The doctor did a biopsy then and there, removed it and stitched her up.

She wrote that she feels lucky it was caught early.

Brinkley encouraged her followers to be diligent with using sun protection on a daily basis.

Treatment for basil cell carcinoma can be highly effective when the cancer is detected early.
