Now that Volkswagen and Stellantis are getting billions of dollars from Canadian taxpayers for locating in Ontario perhaps Alberta should demand the equal amount for cleaning our abandoned oil wells. All of Canada has benefited from this province’s oil sands so it stands to reason this job creating program, with its invaluable green contribution, is as important to this country as a couple of battery plants in a Liberal territory.

ZDENEK KUTAC

(Wouldn’t it be nice if Ottawa could see west of Lake Superior.)

Fill those potholes!

With all the contributions to causes in other provinces and all the emergencies our mayor and city council declare, which they admit they have no control over or ability to fix, maybe they could declare one more: a Pothole Emergency! It’s one they theoretically could address, but seemingly can’t. Anyway off to the alignment shop, again.

JIM SLOAN

(We are all very tired of the bumps.)

The importance of unions

The Westjet pilots won a pay raise of 24 percent over four years! It really shows how necessary it is for workers to unionize. If you’ve been suckered into forgoing a raise, getting no cost of living adjustment, and then eating inflation with your meagre paycheck while the executives and shareholders go on to brag about record profits, then you need to organize. They are never going to reward you for making yourself easy to exploit. If you want a living wage then you have to fight for it.

TOMMY NOSEWICZ

(We all need to fight for better treatment.)

Release the details

If the Liberals will not release details of Chinese interference with our elections, the Conservatives should contact the relevant government offices, and show the results of their own efforts. If the results are heavily redacted, expose them! The results should be damning to Trudeau, regardless of the inquiry!

LOENARD FRANCIS VANESS

(We need to know so we don’t allow it to ever happen again.)

Mountain of debt

The combined debt owed by our federal and provincial governments is currently around $2.1 trillion. There must be a phantom tax man lurking in every maternity ward anxiously waiting for an opportunity to whisper into each newborn’s ears, “Psst. You now owe $55,000.” Each Canadian is under the same financial obligation as the rest of us. Too many people want a ‘free lunch’ and overlook the fact that today’s kids will have to pay the bill.

LLOYD ATKINS

(That’s for that cheery reminder, Lloyd.)
