Tim Hortons is giving Canadians a real treat this summer to celebrate its 60th anniversary!
The coffee and donut chain has just announced a new, limited-time musical called The Last Timbit. The production is about a group of strangers from different walks of life who wait out a snowstorm in a Tim Hortons restaurant.
The story is inspired by a blizzard in Sarnia, Ont., in 2010, where dozens of people were stranded at a Tims for almost 24 hours.
The musical is being produced by Michael Rubinoff, known for his 2013 musical “Come From Away,” where he won an Olivier Award and received a Tony Award nomination.
“The Last Timbit is a celebration of that community connection that will surprise and delight audiences with its heart and humour,” Rubinoff said in a press release.
The Last Timbit will star Chilina Kennedy and Jake Epstein, with music and lyrics by Anika Johnson and Britta Johnson.
“Every Canadian has a relationship with Tim Hortons, it’s a marker of so many huge events in all of our lives – and what an incredible thing to write songs about,” Johnson said in a statement.
“That is a rich playground for writing and we’re really excited about what we’ve made,” she added.
Tim Hortons has also launched a national contest that encourages Canadians to share their stories about how Tims has played a special role in their lives. Winners will get a chance to win a trip to Toronto to see the musical.
The Last Timbit will be playing at the Elgin Theatre in Toronto between June 26-30.
Tickets go on sale Friday at 8 a.m. ET at ticketmaster.ca.
