Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Prince George, with total snow accumulations expected to range between 10 and 15 centimetres by Wednesday morning.
A moisture-heavy Pacific frontal system is expected to bring snow, particularly to higher terrain areas, the weather agency states The snow will begin overnight and is forecast to ease by late Wednesday morning as the system moves out of the region.
In addition to Prince George, snow is expected in the Cariboo area, including Quesnel and Williams Lake, and the Stuart-Nechako area south of Highway 16.
Travellers should be prepared for reduced visibility at times due to heavy snowfall, and road conditions are expected to change rapidly, Environment Canada states.
For the rest of Tuesday, expect cloudy skies with a high of -9C, accompanied by a brisk northern wind of 20 kilometres per hour. Wind chill values will hover around -19C.
Clouds will persist Tuesday with a 60 per cent chance of flurries this evening and after midnight. Snow is expected to begin falling after midnight, with accumulations between five and 10 cm. Winds will be lighter, reaching up to 15 km/h, and temperatures will rise to -7C by morning.
Wind chills will feel as cold as -16C tonight and -10C overnight.
Wednesday will bring periods of snow throughout the morning, tapering off near noon. A cloudy afternoon will follow, with a 40 per cent chance of more flurries. Another five cm of snow is possible, and temperatures will remain steady at around -7C. Windchill values will feel as cold as -13C.
The evening will clear with a low of -10C.
For Thursday, expect clouds with a high of -2C. The temperature will stay steady overnight, with a low of -2C.
Friday will see sunny skies with temperatures rising to zero, followed by clouds at night and a low of -2C.
The night will see cloudy conditions and a low of minus 2C.
Saturday will be a mix of sun and cloud, with temperatures reaching zero. Expect cloudy skies once again at night, with a low of -5C.
Sunday will see cloudy weather, with a 30 per cent chance of flurries and a high of -2C and an overnight low of -3C overnight.
