The golf superstar was so upset with U.S. players and caddies lustily celebrating Patrick Cantlay’s birdie putt on the 18th green during Saturday’s final match, he apparently decided to take things to the parking lot. McIlroy’s issue centred on Tiger Woods’ former caddie Joe LaCava — now Cantlay’s bag man — taking his hat off and mockingly waving it toward European fans near McIlroy while the Northern Irishman attempted to line up a match-tying putt that he would then miss. According to European captain Luke Donald, LaCava did not move out of the way in a timely fashion when McIlroy asked him to.

“Joe (LaCava) was waving his hat. Obviously, there was some hat waving going on throughout the day from the crowd for our players,” Donald said. “Talked to Rory. He politely asked Joe to move aside. He was in his line of vision. He stood there and didn’t move for a while and continued to wave the hat, so I think Rory was upset about that.”
Words were exchanged on the putting green at the time, but video has surfaced of an irate McIlroy seemingly attempting to get at an off-camera U.S. supprter before leaving the course. Justin Thomas’ caddie Jim “Bones” Mackay is seen standing between McIlroy and the individual before European teammate Shane Lowry enters and tries to remove McIlroy from the scene.

As for the parking lot excitement, captain Donald said he was “aware of it.”
What was beginning to look like one of the most one-sided drubbings in Ryder Cup history certainly has some added spice heading to Sunday.
