Ovechkin scored his 31st career hat trick, jumping out to a three-way tie with Sam Reinhart (Florida Panthers) and Leon Draisaitl (Edmonton Oilers) for the league-lead in goals.

According to NHL PR, Ovechkin is the first player in league history, age 39 or older, to lead the league in goals either outright or tied (min. 10 goals).

Ovechkin, who celebrated his birthday on September 17, reached the mountaintop at age 39 and 61 days.

NHL PR added Ovechkin also became the first player in NHL history age 39 or older to score 11 goals in a 10-game span.
