The reality star and brand mogul wore Maison Margiela Artisanal by John Galliano. The designer created a haute couture ensemble comprised of a pale grey cashmere cardigan, a couture corset rewoven from antique silver brocade and a skirt tooled with silver metal.

The luxury fashion brand said the look was meant to evoke lace, flowers, leaves and sprigs alongside silver chain and floral motifs cut from mirror fragments. The silhouette was “inspired by the symbiotic love-affair between Elizabeth Taylor and her jewelry,” according to a release.

Kardashian has been a constant at the Met Gala for the last few years. Interviewed by long-time best friend La La Anthony for Vogue on the red carpet, she said that getting the chance to see those important to her is what she looks forward to the most at fashion’s biggest night.

“I really just look forward to seeing friends,” Kardashian said on the red carpet. “I look forward to seeing my sisters,” she added.

Kardashian shared that she and her sisters are all on a group chat before they get to the event and that they’re “all nervous no matter how many times” they attend. She also said the Kardashian family tries to coordinate where they can meet on the red carpet.

This year’s dress code, “The Garden of Time,” takes its cue from the 1962 short story of the same name by J.G. Ballard, which dovetails nicely with the latest Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute exhibition, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, which opens to the public on Friday, May 10. The Andrew Bolton-curated show spotlights fragile pieces from the institute’s archives, all viewed through a lens of nature. The exhibit’s coffee table book will be released on June 18.
