OHL mourns the loss of former Mississauga Steelheads ...

The Ontario Hockey League is mourning the loss of former Mississauga Steelheads 2018 seventh round draft pick and Blenheim Blades captain Craig Spence following a fatal crash on Tuesday. He was 22-years-old.

The entire OHL community would like to extend our deepest condolences to Craig’s loved ones, and all those affected by the tragedy.

A GoFundMe page has been created by a close friend to assist the family in whatever way they need, including funeral costs and other expenses.

“The Steelheads are saddened to learn about the passing of former player Craig Spence. We would like to extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, teammates and all those affected,” said the club in a statement on Wednesday.

“The Blades are saddened by the passing of our captain Craig Spence. An amazing hockey player, an even better teammate, brother and friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with Craig’s family and all those who knew and loved him,” said the Blades hockey club.

Spence, who previously served as an assistant captain with the Chatham Maroons of the GOJHL, was also commemorated by the hockey club.

“Craig was more than just a stellar athlete on the ice; he embodied the essence of what it meant to be a genuine and wonderful human being. His presence graced not only the rink but also the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him,” the Maroons posted. “Craig’s legacy will forever be etched into the fabric of our organization. He will always remain a beacon of inspiration, reminding us to strive for greatness both on and off the ice.”

Visitation and funeral arrangements for Spence have yet to be announced.
