The annual magic of Boxing Day hockey is back as Team Canada is set to take the ice for their opening game of the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship on Thursday, Dec. 26.

What time is the Team Canada game?

The opening day slate of games begins at noon EST as Sweden takes on Slovakia at TD Place in Ottawa. Canada opens their tournament at 7:30 p.m. in a heavyweight matchup against Finland, live from the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa. 

After not taking a medal home in 2024, Team Canada aims to get back to their gold standard, having previously won back-to-back gold in 2022 in Edmonton and 2023 in Halifax.

In total, Team Canada has brought home 20 gold medals since the tournament began in 1977.

Team Canada will continue on their busy slate of games the very next day as they host Latvia at 7:30 p.m., followed by a tilt with Germany on Sunday, Dec. 29, and a New Year's Eve rivalry matchup against the United States at 8 p.m. to wrap up the preliminary portion of the tournament.

Brayden Yager of the Lethbridge Hurricanes has been named this year's team captain. He will be joined by Tanner Molendyk of the Saskatoon Blades and Calum Ritchie of the Oshawa Generals to round out the leadership group as alternates. 

Should they make it, the gold medal game is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 5 at 7:30 p.m. EST at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa.  

The 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship will be televised on TSN and RDS on cable TV, as well as the TSN+ app for streaming.
