CARBONDALE, Ill. — In a showdown of FCS national powers, No. 9 Southern Illinois hosts No. 12 Incarnate Word at Saluki Stadium on Saturday at 6 p.m.

The home opener is SIU's annual Hawgs & Dawgs game, in which motorcyles will lead the team onto the field before the game. To participate in Hawgs & Dawgs, fans can purchase a $10 ticket with the promo code "HAWGS" and line up at the south end zone at 5:30 p.m.

It's also Faith & Family Night, in which area churches and faith groups can purchase $10 tickets with the promo code "FAITH" and have their organization recognized on the video board during the game.

Series vs. Incarnate Word
The Salukis and Cardinals have met just once, a 2022 shootout in San Antonio, in which Incarnate Word won, 64-29. The game featured a lengthy, pregame lightning delay and an in-game power outage in the season opener for both teams. The Salukis fell behind, 22-0, in the first quarter. Punter Nathan Torney had two snap go over his head, resulting in losses of 29 and 40 yards.

LB Ben Bogle named FCS/MVFC Player of the Week
After one of the most dominating solo performances in school history, LB Ben Bogle was named the Stats Perform FCS and Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player-of-the-Week. A sophomore linebacker from Ponte Verda, Fla, Bogle had a career-high 12 tackles, including a school-record 6.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks, as SIU beat Austin Peay, 31-17. Bogle becomes the eighth player in school history to earn national Player-of-the-Week honors, and the first since safety PJ Jules won the award in 2023.

Salukis among the FCS national leaders
After two weeks of play, LB Ben Bogle leads the nation in tackles for loss (3.3/game) and is second in sacks (2.25/game). QB DJ Williams ranks 13th in points responsible for (30). 

Lots of new faces in Game 1
SIU's starting lineup at BYU featured only four returning starters on offense (C Chase Evans, RG Jake Green, RT Abdou Toure, WR Vinson Davis III) and three on defense (LB Colin Bohanek, S Ubayd Steed, S Iverson Brown). 

Salukis shut down APSU in fourth quarter
Southern's defense played lights-out in the fourth quarter, holding the Governors to minus-eight total yards. Bogle led the fourth-quarter dominance, twice making tackles that forced turnovers on downs. He also had 2.5 sacks in the decisive fourth quarter.
