LAKELAND - "Hazardous winter conditions are expected" today, according to information released in the early morning hours of Dec. 7 by Environment Canada.

According to the warning, "A band of freezing rain will develop late this afternoon. This will then be followed by heavy snow lasting through Sunday morning."

Snowfall accumulations of 10 to 15 cm are expected.

"Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery," according to Environment Canada.

The warning asks motorists to avoid non-essential travel until conditions improve.

"Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together."
