Daytime hours on Tuesday, November 12, are the calm before a Pacific frontal storm hits many parts of BC's coast, including from sḵelhp (Saltery Bay) to Powell River, according to an alert issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).
Weatherhood is indicating a daytime temperature today of nine degrees Celsius and a mix of sun and cloud throughout the day, before winds start picking up at 6 pm this evening.
The wind warning alert from ECCC is as follows: This evening to Wednesday morning, strong southeast winds near 70 kilometres an hour with gusts 90 to 100 kilometres an hour may cause utility outages and potential for travel disruptions and delays.
A vigorous Pacific frontal system will move over the BC coast tonight into Wednesday. Blustery, southeasterly winds will develop this evening over areas near the Strait of Georgia, Haro Strait and Boundary Bay.
BC Ferries has announced that evening sailings are at risk of cancellation between Little River (Comox) and Westview (Powell River), Blubber Bay (Texada Island) and Westview, and Saltery Bay (qathet Regional District) and Earls Cove (Sechelt Penninsula) terminals.
However, winds are expected to ease Wednesday morning.
Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage and high winds may result in power outages and fallen tree branches, stated the ECCC wind alert.
