BC Ferries cancelled two sailings on a Vancouver Island route Wednesday after a wind warning was posted for Greater Victoria.

The 2:25 p.m. ferry departing from Brentwood Bay and the 3 p.m. ferry departing from Mill Bay were cancelled due to “adverse weather conditions,” according to BC Ferries.

According to the company, the 10 a.m. sailing departing from Tsawwassen and the noon sailing departing from Swartz Bay have been cancelled.

Additionally, the company has stated that the 2 p.m. sailing departing from Tsawwassen and the 4 p.m. sailing departing from Swartz Bay are also at risk of cancellation due to the weather.

A wind warning was issued for Greater Victoria Tuesday night.

According to Environment Canada, southeasterly winds, with gusts reaching up to 90 km/h, are expected to impact the region on Wednesday morning.

The warning comes ahead of an approaching frontal system, which is forecasted to bring powerful southeasterly winds to parts of southern Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.

Wind speeds are anticipated to peak in the morning, with southeasterly winds gusting up to 70 km/h, particularly near Haro Strait, before gradually decreasing.

The daytime high is expected to reach 11°C.

Wednesday night will see increasing cloud cover, with a 60 percent chance of showers late in the evening and overnight. Winds will shift to the southwest, gusting up to 40 km/h, before becoming light in the evening and transitioning to southeast winds gusting up to 40 km/h overnight. The overnight low is forecasted to be 6°C.

Weather for Greater Victoria should improve as the week moves along with sun expected for most of the Easter long weekend.
