Portland had everything it could have needed.

The Timbers came into Wednesday’s MLS Wild Card match with every advantage in the book. Despite a worse record, the Timbers got to host the match at home due to a scheduling conflict in Vancouver, and a hearty crowd welcomed the “hosting” Whitecaps to Providence Park with a large “Hell Boy” Tifo and chants that roared up well before the match started. And while Portland didn’t exactly make its way into Wednesday’s match with momentum, Vancouver arrived in the Rose City as the first team in MLS history to enter the postseason on a four-game losing streak.
