Widespread closures on P.E.I. for Christmas Day and Boxing Day

Dec. 25 is a statutory holiday on Prince Edward Island, meaning many businesses and services will be closed or on reduced hours for both Christmas Day and Boxing Day, Dec. 26. It’s best to call ahead if you’re thinking about venturing out anywhere this week.

It's Christmas on P.E.I., a time to reflect, gather with family and friends, and hopefully eat lots of delicious food after the gifts are unwrapped.

Dec. 25 is a statutory holiday on Prince Edward Island, meaning many businesses and services will be closed or on reduced hours for both Christmas Day and Boxing Day, Dec. 26. It's best to call ahead if you're thinking about venturing out anywhere this week.

Here's a partial list of what's open and closed Dec. 25 and 26 this year:    

All federal, municipal and provincial government offices, including all Access P.E.I. locations, are closed Dec. 25 and 26.  Canada Post offices are closed, and there will be no mail delivery or collection either day. Island Waste Management will not collect trash on Christmas Day, but there will be regular pickup on Boxing Day. Garbage normally collected on Wednesdays will be picked up Saturday, Dec. 28.  T3 Transit's city and rural buses do not operate on Dec. 25 and 26. P.E.I. Liquor Control Commission stores are closed Dec. 25 and 26. Cannabis P.E.I. stores are closed Wednesday and Thursday.  P.E.I. public libraries are all closed. Royalty Crossing mall is closed both days.  Confederation Court Mall is closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day. County Fair Mall in Summerside is closed Dec. 25 and 26 but the Lawtons Drugs inside the mall is open from noon to 5 p.m. on Boxing Day.  Sobeys and Foodland stores are all closed Dec. 25 and 26.  Atlantic Superstores, No Frills in Stratford and Your Independent Grocer in Cornwall are all closed Dec. 25 and 26.  Walmart in Charlottetown and Summerside are closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Giant Tiger stores in Charlottetown and Summerside are closed Dec. 25 and 26. Shoppers Drug Marts in Stratford, Summerside and at 403 and 675 University Ave. in Charlottetown are open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Christmas Day and for their regular hours on Boxing Day. The Shoppers location in the Confederation Court Mall on Queen Street in Charlottetown is closed Dec. 25 and open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 26. Murphy's Pharmacies in Summerside, East Royalty, Morell, Rustico, Tyne Valley and Wellington are closed both Christmas Day and Boxing Day. The pharmacies in Cornwall and Stratford (Kinlock Road and Stratford Road) and Charlottetown's West Royalty and Queen Street locations are open noon to 5 p.m. on Dec. 26. The Parkdale pharmacy in Charlottetown is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Boxing Day, and the Kensington pharmacy is also open from 1 to 5 p.m. that day. Brighton Clover Farm in Charlottetown is closed Christmas Day and open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Boxing Day.  Kensington Food Basket is closed Dec. 25 and open regular hours Dec. 26. Global Grocery in Charlottetown is open from noon to 5 p.m. both days.
