West Ham vs. Arsenal live score: Premier League result, updates ...

Seven goals, seven goalscorers and two penalties. Arsenal claimed a 5-2 halftime lead at West Ham after 45 Premier League minutes that lurched close to the absurd.

Mikel Arteta's men made an assured start and another clever corner routine saw them take a 10th-minute lead through Gabriell, the Brazil defender having been passed fit before kickoff.

West Ham were abject for most of the opening period and their static defence were carved apart by a delicious Martin Odegaard pass and the recalled Leandro Trossard tapped home Bukayo Saka's cross.

Saka was brought down by Lucas Paquetta and allowed Odegaard to dispatch his first Premier League goal of the season from the penalty spot before Trossard's lofted ball left Max Kilman sprawling and allowed Kai Havertz to dispatch a one-on-one.

West Ham were sinking without a trace but Aaron Wan-Bisska steered home his second goal in the space of a week thanks to a wonderful slide-rule pass from Carlos Soler. Fellow full-back Emerson then dispatched an emphatic free-kick via the crossbar to give the Hammers faithful hopes of the improbable.

Those were seemingly snuffed out when set-piece frailties again caught up with Julen Lopetegui's side and Lukasz Fabianski clattered into Gabriel when trying to deal with a Saka corner. Fabianski got a touch on the England winger's spot kick but could not keep it out.

90+4 mins: Now it's Jesus' turn to be an Arsenal substitute who fires the ball into the side-netting. That's unlucky, he linked with Sterling to work the opening nicely.

90+1 mins: Into five minutes of stoppage time. Ings around Raya... wide! You'd have backed the former Liverpool forward to put that one away.

89 mins: Oooff, Sterling very close to his first Premier League goal in Arsenal colours. Fabianski rooted to the spot as a dipping effort flies just past his left post.

88 mins: Irving concedes a free-kick for a foul on Jesus just outside the area. Jorginho is faffing about in front of Fabianski and referee Anthony Taylor has stepped in. Sterling over it.

85 mins: Nwaneri for Trossard is the final Arsenal change. Now Rice has a backpedalling West Ham defence in his sights. He passes to Sterling, who fires into the side-netting with his left foot. Perhaps Jesus would have been the better option.

83 mins: Wan-Bissaka absolutely clatters through Havertz. He got a lot of the ball too but Arteta is not happy on the touchline. You're not usually allowed to get away with those nowadays.

79 mins: Raya with a ropey pass out from the back. Alvarez just about can't capitalise. This game is almost certainly done but Arsenal look as if a West Ham goal might cause them untold panic.

77 mins: Soler lifts it in, Arsenal aren't exactly convincing but Soucek has to generate power on his header and can' beat Raya. Andy Irving coming on for Paquetta, with Rodriguez replacing Soler.

76 mins: Sloppy first involvement from Jesus, who carelessly gives the ball away. West Ham break and Bowen winsa a free-kick in a dangerous position on the right wing.

74 mins: Odegaard and Saka are off into cold storage. Sterling and Jesus the men to come on.

73 mins: Raking ball into the Arsenal box from Soler. Inga looks to get around Kiwior and goes down. No penalty, which is the right decision.

69 mins: Again, Fabianski doesn't exactly cover himself in glory under one of Saka's devilishly accurate right-wing corner. Ings mucks in to clear the danger.

66 mins: Arsenal are sitting off a bit here. They don't want to give West Ham any chances to hit them in transition. Mikel Arteta has no time for anymore mayhem.

55 mins: Antonio receives a pass from Paqueta with his back to goal and spins away from Kiwior to get his shot off. Raya saves. Classic centre-forward paly.

2nd Half: Kick-off

We're back underway and there's a change for each side. Gabriel makes way for Kiwior. That's not a concussion substitution relating to they penalty incident, so maybe Gabriel's injury from Lisbon has caught up with him again. Alvarez in on for Summerville for West Ham. That looks like a change of shape with the Mexican sitting at the base of a midfield diamond.

Halftime

Arsenal deal with the corner and we're done with a half that got fantastically out of hand. West Ham were abject as Arsenal strolled into a 4-0 lead but Wan-Bissaka and Emerson hauled them back into the contest. Then Saka scored the visitors' second penalty of the game. Half of Mikel Arteta's outfield players have scored. Surely it's plain sailing from here?

45 mins+7: Emerson again! A bit further out this time but it's another sweetly struck free-kick that Raya manages to tip over.

Saka resumes duties this time. Fabianski gets a decent hand to it down to his right but the ball fizzes into the corner.

45 mins+2: PENALTY TO ARSENAL! Fabianski comes to try and punch the in-swinger clear and succeeds only in clattering Gabriel. Yellow card for the West Ham keeper.

45 mins+1: Five minutes added time. Rice swings a free-kick into the West Ham box from deep and Kilman heads behind.

42 mins: What a difference a couple of minutes makes. West Ham are fired up now. Emerson has a bit of afters with Tinber and Saka comes in to complain. The England winger and the Hammers full-back are both booked.

40 mins: GOOOOAAAALLLLLL!!!! Emerson!!!!

Now then! It's game on now! Emerson, who has had a torrid half near his own box, curls a majestic free-kick over the Arsenal wall and in via the underside of the crossbar.

38 mins: GOOOOAAAALLLLLL!!!! Aaron Wan-Bissaka!!!

Not quite game-on, but Wan-Bissaka has his second goal in a week. Soler's pass through the Arsenal defence is measured to perfection. The right-back times his run and steers home.

36 mins: GOOOOAAAALLLLLL!!!! Kai Havertz!!!!!

Trossard lifts a doozy of a pass towards Havertz. Kilman gets in a tangle and falls over trying to intercept it and the Germany international slots beyond Fabianski. Arsenal 4-0 up at the London Stadium before halftime. Again.

34 mins: GOOOOAAAALLLLLL!!!! Martin Odegaard (pen)!!!!!

Saka hands the ball to Odegaard, who clips into the bottom left corner. Fabianski guesses correctly but has no chance. West Ham sinking without a trace.

32 mins: PENALTY TO ARSENAL! Saka has Emerson back-pedalling, Paqueta dashes back to help out and only succeeds in bringing him down. Saka will take.

27 mins: GOOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!!! Leandro Trossard!!!

Arsenal carve West Ham open with a lovely team goal. It's all about that man Odegaard, whose dinked pass takes out the West Ham defence. They're queueing up in the middle and Trossard taps home from Saka's cross.

25 mins: Arsenal really taking their time with these corners, laying it on thick. Bull and matador stuff. Timber gets up well this time and Fabianski saves! West Ham just can't handle this threat.

22 mins: Ooohhhhh, almost two for Arsenal. Kilman plonks a brainless header into midfield, where Odegaard picks up the pieces. He finds Saka, who curls a lovely effort just wide.

21 mins: Odegaard clips a cross in towards Havertz. Wan-Bissaka, who looks set for a busy evening, heads away from danger.

17 mins: Summerville lifts a lovely finish over Raya but he set off too soon to get on the end of Bowen's pass and is flagged offside. VAR confirms the disappointment swiftly enough. Blushes spared for Calafiori, who dropped his team into all sorts of trouble with a dicey pass.

14 mins: West Ham see off the danger this time. Still, and it is easier said than done, it might be a good idea for them to stop giving away corners quite so frequently.

13 mins: Trossard runs at Wan-Bissaka, who blocks behind. Here come the cavalry again.

10 mins: GOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLL!!!!! Gabriel!!!!

Corner No. 2 does the job. Arsenal lay the groundwork for some tomfoolery with all their players bunching at the back post for Saka's right-wing delivery. They all rush towards the goalmouth, Gabriel gets free at the near post and heads home.

7 mins: Sedate start here. Wan-Bissaka blocks behind and Rice will take a corner for set-piece specialists Arsenal

1st Half: Kick-off

We're underway. West Ham were 4-0 down at halftime in this fixture last year. Something to aim for. Declan Rice getting a bit of a mixed reception.

5 mins before kickoff: Here come the teams into a crackling atmosphere, which can definitely still exist alongside a bubble machine.

30 mins before kickoff: Arsenal will get underway this evening sitting fifth in the table. To underline the heavily congested nature of the Premier League's chasing pack, they would vault up to second with a draw against West Ham. The more significant statistic is the nine-point deficit to leaders Liverpool. We'll be a third of the way through the season at the end of this weekend and the Gunners can't really afford for that gap to be any bigger by tomorrow evening.

45 mins before kickoff: Even though those midfield injuries leave Arteta a little light in central areas, the big boost for Arsenal is Gabriel being fit to resume his supreme central defensive partnership with William Saliba. The Brazil international was a doubt after coming off during the emphatic midweek win over Sporting CP. West Ham's pacey forward line will be keen to test him out early on.

1 hour before kickoff: Lopetegui will want more of the same from the West Ham side that took down Newcastle. To that end, he's named an unchanged XI.
