One of Canada’s largest electronic musical festivals kicks off today with EDM favourites like Kaskade, Marshmello, Steve Aioki, and Alesso in the lineup.

Thousands of people will gather at Downsview Park for the VELD music festival this weekend from Aug. 2 to 4.

From 2 p.m. to 11 p.m., people can expect to see over 60 artists on three huge, outdoor stages.

Gryffin and Fisher are some of Friday’s headliners and Scarborough’s Shamier Anderson, an actor who starred in John Wick 4, will be playing a DJ set from 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. today as well.

On Saturday, the main stage will be popping with Sam Feldt and Frank Walker. And from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., non-stop music from Steve Aioki, Kaskade, and Marshmello will be playing.

Alesso, Alok, and Kream are headliners on the mainstage on Sunday with Green Velvet and Boys Noize on the Sirkus stage.

VELD created a new app to help attendees stay organized

The VELD app helps attendees manage which artists they want to see with a scheduling feature and has a map to avoid getting lost while travelling to different stages. The app also includes any updates and announcements happening throughout the festival.

Aside from the app, people can download a phone wallpaper that lists artists in order of set times.

To keep VELD running smoothly, attendees can’t leave the festival grounds after entering, only bags that are smaller than 12 x 12 inches are allowed, and no professional cameras are allowed.

The festival is now entirely cashless and accepts only credit or debit cards when buying food, beverages, or merchandise on site.

An official list of prohibited and permitted items is listed on the website.
