Alert issued for dangerous person on University of Manitoba campus

There is a large police presence at the University of Manitoba Tuesday morning as Winnipeg police search for an alleged armed man.

The Winnipeg Police Service made a post on social media at around 7:30 a.m. saying they received reports of a male armed with a knife at the Allen Building, which is located at 30 Sifton Road, at the U of M Campus.

*Public Advisory*: We have recieved reports of a male armed with a knife at the Allen Building, located at 30 Sifton Road, at the U of M campus. Large police presence. We ask the public to avoid the immediate area until further notice.

Just before 8:30 a.m., the province issued an Alert Ready notification asking students and Manitobans to stay away from the area. 

The suspect who is allegedly armed with a large knife, is described as a black male wearing black clothing. 

Anyone who sees this individual is asked not to approach and call 9-1-1.
