Tottenham vs. Man City final score, result from Carabao Cup as ...
Tottenham claimed a stirring 2-1 win over Manchester City to book a place in the Carabao Cup quarterfinals.
Ange Postecoglou is chasing the club's first trophy since 2008 and this competition probably represents their best chance of success. They began with suitable intent and Timo Werner dispatched a fine fifth-minute finish after Brennan Johnson and Dejan Kulusevski crafted a wonderful counter-attack.
It was 2-0 before the half-hour when Spurs worked a corner short corner for Pape Sarr to curl home a fantastic strike from outside the box.
An injury-hit City team, who lost Manuel Akanji in the warm-up, then got to work with their smooth passing and control, poking and prodding at Spurs before Nunes steered home Savinho's cross in first-half stoppage time.

— CBS Sports Golazo ⚽️ (@CBSSportsGolazo) October 30, 2024Tottenham reasserted themselves in an attacking sense after the break, with Werner and Kulusevski both passing up glorious chances on the break. Richarlison wasted an even more glaring opportunity when City substitute Josko Gvardiol haphazardly hurled a throw-in across his own box.
Postecolgou's men were almost made to rue such wastefulness when Guglielmo Vicario made a hash of a late corner and Yves Bissouma made a heroic clearance off the line to deny Nico O'Reilly his first senior goal.
Muscular injuries to Micky van de Ven and Werner meant victory came at a price but raucous celebrations at full-time showed how much this meant to a fanbase who were at one with their manager, unlike in the Premier League edition of this fixture in May.
Erling Haaland looked on as an unused substitute and City badly missed his cutting edge during the closing stages. But as Akanji and Savinho took his first-team injuries tally to eight it was understandable to see Guardiola keep his main man in cold storage.

That's it. Guardiola and Postecoglou embrace after the sort of game both of them enjoy. Huge win for the Spurs boss and his players, while Guardiola will be pleased to have seen how well some of his youngster acquitted themselves. The way City's injuries are mounting up suggests he might need them again over the coming days and weeks.
90 mins+5: O'Reilly cracks his next attempt over as Haaland looks on from the bench. Still, in the wider context Guardiola's call makes sense.
90 mins+3: Wright can't quite get a bouncing ball out of his feet, hacking at a shot that a scrambling Vicario watches go wide.
90 mins: Six minutes to be added on as Spurs hack a Silva cross away. Anywhere will do.
88 mins: City corner from the left, Vicario makes a total mess of it. O'Reilly crashes goalwards and that's an incredible clearance off the line by Bissouma. Spurs survive the next corner.
84 mins: OH RICHARLISON HAS TO SCORE THERE! Gvardiol hurled a ridiculous throw across his own area and the Brazilian only had Ortega to beat. It was a tentative effort though and City get away with conceding a corner.
80 mins: The ball pinging back and forth across the Spurs area. Unfortunately for Wright, this effort isn't as good as his last one and it goes out for a throw.
79 mins: Richarlison skips past Silva and looks to play in Solanke. Simpson-Pusey calmly holds his ground to catch the Spurs striker offside.
74 mins: Final change for City, and it's not Haaland. Probably understandably given the rate at which injuries have been happening here. Jahmai Simpson-Pusey is on for Ake at centre-back to make his first-team debut.
70 mins: McAtee finds Nunes in the left of the Spurs box. His shot is too close to Vicario.
69 mins: Wright so close to the equaliser! City turn over possession high and find the midfielder on the edge of the box. Wright curls an effort towards the corner, Vicario is scrambling and there's a lick of paint in it. What a moment that almost was for the 19-year-old.
68 mins: Spurs leading 2-1 and might have just evened it up 2-2 on the injury count. Werner goes down holding his groin. Richarlison is coming on as his team-mate hobbles off in a lot of pain.
66 mins: Werner hares down the left again. He crosses low towards Johnson but Gvardiol was always favourite to get to that. Spurs corner that Ortega claims.
65 mins: Johnson scoops a clever cross from inside the City box. Lewis is there to head clear.
63 mins: It is Wright who comes on in any case. Only the Haaland card left to play for Guardiola... maybe.
61 mins: Savinho is down in a lot of pain. Seemingly with his foot after the incident that led to him winning that corner. Jacob Wright was getting ready to come on but Guardiola might have to reassess as the stretcher comes on.
58 mins: Savinho skipping and scampering and wins the corner. Bernardo Silva getting ready to come on. Foden curls it in from the right but Stones is punished for a foul on Bentancur. That's Foden's last act.
56 mins: Werner cuts inside. The shot is high and wide but Tottenham have really lifted their supporters, who were getting increasingly nervy.
55 mins: Spurs are finding those chances on the break again. Kulusevski stabs a low shot...excellent save from Ortega.
53 mins: Sarr being on a yellow was probably part of the reason for Bissouma coming on. Bissouma has just got himself booked. I'm sure Postecoglou is delighted.
52 mins: Werner darting through! He was the only Spurs player in the City half. Lewis, Ake and Stones are chasing but they're not going to catch him...WIDE! Oh, that's such a waste. Davies is the next Tottenham player to come on, replacing Romero.
48 mins: Spurs launch into one of those transitions they found so fruitful during the first half hour. Johnson drills a low shot that Ortega saves. The rebound calls to Solanke but he's offside.
47 mins: Savinho cuts inside and lets fly left-footed. He can't bring it back enough. City really looking in the mood here.
Kickoff: 2nd HalfWe're back underway and it's a double change for City. Gvardiol and Kovacic on for Dias and Gundogan. The former change means Ake shifting forward to centre-back and potentially more problems for Gray as Gvardiol attacks down the Tottenham right. Also a change in the Spurs midfield as Bissouma replaces the goalscorer Sarr.
HalftimeSpurs raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to a couple of very fine goals from Werner and Sarr. After the latter goal, City have completely dominated but lacked cutting edge until Nunes reduced the arrears. Erling Haaland is probably licking his lips on the bench looking at some of this attacking build-up play from his team-mates. Pep Guardiola would probably rather tackling this one without is star striker tonight, but if the score remains the same heading into the final half hour temptation might get the better of him.
45 mins+4: GOOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!!! Matheus Nunes!!!
It's certainly been in the post. Nunes has been City's main creator tonight and has taken the "if you can't find someone to do the job, do it yourself" approach as he gets on the end of Savinho's cross to steer a bouncing ball past Vicario. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a cup tie.

— CBS Sports Golazo ⚽️ (@CBSSportsGolazo) October 30, 202445 mins+3: Lovely flick from Foden that McAtee can't quite get on the end of. Romero gets across.
45 mins: Foden... over. Not by much but Vicario also don't have a great deal to worry about. There will be four added minutes.
44 mins: They might manage one now after Romero brings down McAtee right on the edge of the D after Udogie coughed up possession.
43 mins: Foden swings a volley over. Nunes again the provider. Have responded well to going 2-0 down but still yet to produce a shot on target tonight.
40 mins: Savinho, still searching for his first City goal, looks to curl one. Plonks it a good distance wide.
37 mins: City are definitely targeting Gray over at right-back for Spurs. This attack ends with Foden having a shot charged down.
31 mins: Johnson comes back to help out and fouls Nunes. His defenders don't thank him. Gundogan waste the free-kick, lifting it onto the roof of the Tottenham net.
28 mins: Nunes shuffles past Gray down the left as City look to respond. Dragusin lunges in to clear the cross.
25 mins: GOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLL!!!!! Pape Sarr!!!!!
Screamer from Sarr! The corner is played short and sets off a curling shot around Nunes. Ortega sees it late and can't get down to his bottom left corner in time.
Pape Matar Sarr what a lovely finish ???? pic.twitter.com/3MhSfwg8Ss
— CBS Sports Golazo ⚽️ (@CBSSportsGolazo) October 30, 202425 mins: Spurs' pace in transition is causing City problems every time. Dias slide in on Johnson to concede the corner.
23 mins: Sarr is the first man into the book for his third infringement of the game, bringing down Savinho inside the City half. Elsewhere in midfield, O'Reilly is going to carry on.
22 mins: Kulusevski's assist added to his already excellent body of work against City. So we'll forgive him the ambition of this shot from the edge of the box that has gone into orbit.
19 mins: Not City youngster O'Reilly is down after slipping on the greasy surface and twisting his knee. Looks to be in fair bit of pain. Bernardo Silva is warming up.
15 mins: Poor past from Gundogan and it leads to another chance for his compatriot Werner, who shoots too close to Ortega.
13 mins: Udogie on for Van de Ven, who looks absolutely gutted as he heads down the tunnel.
12 mins: It's been great start for Spurs but Van de Ven has pulled up with what looks like a hamstring injury.
5 mins: GOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLL!!!!! Timo Werner
Spurs lead after a wonderful counter-attack. Johnson releases Kulusevski down the right and he unselfishly picks out Werner. The German forward has been criticised for some erratic finishing but he makes no mistake here, crashing beyond Ortega first time.
4 mins: Nunes, who has enjoyed himself out on the left wing over the past week, fizzes a lovely delivery into the box but it's just behind McAtee.
2 mins: Kulusevski gets goal side of Gundogan down the right and takes a tumble. No penalty and no VAR to turn to tonight. It would have been a pretty soft one.
Kickoff: 1st HalfOff we go. Stones and Dias get some early mopping up to do as they resume their partnership in the heart of the City defence. Dias, who only just found out he would be starting, gives the ball away.
7 mins before kickoff: Remember what we were saying about City's injuries? Well, Manuel Akanji has pulled up injured in the warmup. Ruben Dias comes in and will captain the side.
15 mins before kickoff: "It is the benchmark for everyone. That's what we are all striving for and all chasing - that's the aim and ambition," Ange Postecoglou said of reigning four-time Premier League champions City when speaking to Sky Sports before the match. "It is about winning a game of football and we have put a team out there against a capable opponent. We want to put out a line-up who we think can get the job done."
30 mins before kickoff: "It has always been tough since Ange was the manager [at Tottenham]," said Pep Guardiola, who have won their past two games against Spurs without conceding. "They are so aggressive, dynamic, physicality and good patterns so this is a good team and it's an incredible test for our young players and experienced ones. We have to compete at our best."
55 mins before kickoff: It's a strong Tottenham lineup, where there's a start for Archie Gray. Richarlison, James Maddison and Mikey Moore make for an impressive array of attacking options on Ange Postecoglou's bench.
— Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) October 30, 20241 hour before kickoff: The teams are in. Still a pretty strong XI for City. Erling Haaland is on the bench alongside the aforementioned youngsters.

1 hr 10 mins before kickoff: Spurs lost twice on their own patch against City last season but have a great home record against Pep Guardiola's men overall. Ange Postecoglou is determined to end a trophy drought dating back to 2008 and facing a depleted City probably isn't a chance they will want to pass them by. As Guardiola prepares to unveil his travelling youngsters it could be another chance for exciting Tottenham teen Mikey Moore to impress.
1 hr 40 mins before kickoff: City have six senior outfield players absent at the moment, including freshly minted Ballon d'Or winner Rodri, who is out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury. It could be a very unfamiliar lineup for the Premier League champions. Youth team captain Jacob Wright is part of the travelling party, while fellow academy products Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, Farid Alfa-Ruprecht could feature on a senior competitive matchday for the first time.

City's injury situation and relatively small first-team, squad means Guardiola will probably not make as many changes as he would have liked.
John Stones, Ilkay Gundogan and Nathan Ake were all substitutes for the 1-0 weekend win over Southampton and start alongside England Under-21 international James McAtee and fellow youngster Nico O'Reilly. Erling Haaland is on the bench, meaning McAtee and Phil Foden are likely to share false-nine duties.
Kevin De Bruyne (thigh), Kyle Walker, Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku remain out alongside long-term absentees Rodri (ACL) and Oscar Bobb (broken leg).
Manuel Akanji was added to that list when he pulled up during the warm-up. Ruben Dias came in to captain the side.
