At 8:17 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time Wednesday, Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for South Central Alberta. Extra care and attention should be exercised in and around the following localities: Clive, Alix, Eckville and Lacombe. Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a very dangerous thunderstorm capable of producing damaging wind gusts, baseball size or greater hail and heavy rain.

Description: tornado warning in effect

At 8:01 p.m. MDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado. Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible. The thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado is located just west of Lacombe, and is heading to the east at 30 km/h. Baseball-sized hail or larger is also possible.

This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Tornado warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing tornadoes.

Action to take:

If you hear a roaring sound or see a funnel cloud, swirling debris near the ground, flying debris, or any threatening weather approaching, take shelter immediately Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can As a last resort, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

At 7:42 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time Wednesday, Environment Canada has updated a tornado warning for North Central and South Central Alberta. Extra care and attention should be exercised. The following localities are included in the warning: Rimbey, Crestomere, Ponoka, Eckville and Lacombe. Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado. Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible.

Area: Lacombe Co. near Lacombe Blackfalds and Bentley

At 7:11 p.m. MDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado. Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible. There are two thunderstorms that are possibly producing tornadoes. One is located about 10 km north of Bentley, and the other is located about 10 km north of Eckville.

This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation. Tornado warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing tornadoes.
