Environment Canada is tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado.

The national weather agency issued a marine tornado warning just after 6:30 p.m. Saturday for the Upper Great Lakes and said caution should be exercised in the Lake Huron area.

A tornado warning was also issued for Saugeen Shores, Kincardine, Southern Bruce County, Bruce Peninsula - Sauble Beach - Tobermory and Owen Sound. Shortly before 9 p.m. warnings were downgraded to tornado watches.

Environment Canada said damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible.

"Thunderstorms are expected to move into the area from Lower Michigan, read the statement from Environment Canada. "Brief tornadoes may be embedded within the area of showers and thunderstorms. Additional hazards include torrential downpours and localized strong wind gusts."

We're reminded that tornadoes are often wrapped in rain, and my not be visible.

If threatening weather approaches we are advised to take cover immediately.
