The First Descendant

Nexon

While I’ve seen worse online game launches in my time, much worse, things weren’t the most smooth with the release of The First Descendant yesterday. Disconnects and a lot of lag made some of the gameplay especially annoying or knocked you offline altogether.

Now, Nexon is offering apologies to First Descendant players with a litany of rewards that they can claim, which should indeed be genuinely beneficial for players just getting started. They are:

Gold Gain Boost +30% (Duration 3 days) Kyper Shard Gain Boost +30% (Duration 3 days) Descendant EXP Gain Boost +30% (Duration 3 days) Weapon Mastery EXP Gain Boost +30% (Duration 3 days) 2x Matte Red Paints

You won’t get these or instantly activate them when you log in, you have to go to your mailbox, one of the many icons in the Albion home base, and get them from there. Once you do, they will auto-activate, so now you cannot save them for later. Here’s where the mailbox is.

You have until the end of this Sunday to log in to get credit for these rewards, though if you log in and don’t claim them, they will expire at the end of what looks like twelve days. So yeah, I would just pick them up and then play the next three days. I guess you could wait until Friday if you have more time to play over the weekend. Though in the US, it’s July 4 tomorrow so everyone is off work or school, and that might be a good time as well. Going outside? Please.

Somewhat controversially, albeit not unexpectedly, these “boost” items are sold in the store of The First Descendant, letting you get more materials to craft more things faster. But this game is so mangled with microtransactions and “earning” processes I’m not even sure it’s worth it to untangle them now. At least these are free and being offered for everyone.

I’ve been writing a bit about the game based on my day one impressions, and it’s somewhat mixed, but I’ve found enough good things to continue on for a while and give it a real shot. I mean if I put 60 hours into Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, this should be no problem, right? Anyway, go claim that stuff.
