The Calgary Flames finally have something interesting happen this ...
This Calgary Flames season has been extremely uneventful, as the team continues to swim in mediocrity. Really the only memorable moment this season was Matthew Phillips scoring his first NHL goal against his former team. Sure, there are some fun stories like Sharangovich’s goal run and the emergence of Connor Zary. But Calgary continues to be the most uninspiring franchise in the NHL.
Things finally became interesting when global sensation Tate McRae attended Saturday’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Tate is from Calgary and has continued to put the city on the map as her fame continues to grow. The Flames gifted McRae a custom Flames jersey ahead of tonight’s game, repping Chris Tanev’s number eight (though she has gone with “T8” on her own sports memorabilia).
McRae will be making her first home performance this summer, and she performs at Cowboys Music Festival on July 5, the opening day of Stampede. Pretty darn cool. She also has a song titled calgary on her most recent album THINK LATER which was released on December 8 of this year. Her album is currently grossing as the top album in the entire world. You read that right. Some may be unfamiliar with McRae, but she is extremely popular with the younger folk and continues to grow. Currently, she has more than 3.5 billion career streams, and more than 700 million music video views, among multiple #1 hits. At the age of 20, she is one of the world’s budding popstars. Pretty cool for Calgary.
Tate just wrapped up a huge tour earlier this year and appeared on Saturday Night Live a few weeks ago. So, being back in Calgary, McRae took in the Flames game while she is home for the holidays. And hey, the Flames put forth one of their best efforts of the season for Tate. If she’s happy, we’re happy.
Tate, if you’re reading this, what’s up? Shooters shoot.
