Glen Powell saved Sydney Sweeney from a spider bite while filming in Australia. No, seriously — we know it sounds like a plot line straight out of their new movie Anyone But You, but it really happened. Powell was able to help out his costar simply by noticing something wasn't right.

Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell recounted the tale while appearing on Today on December 11. “Well, the spider actually bit me in the middle of this scene but nobody called cut because they thought I was just making a very dramatic, interesting choice in this scene, and Glen was the only one who finally caught on,” Sweeney explained. “They thought I was acting but it actually bit me and Glen goes, ‘Wait, this is a little more serious.'"

According to Powell, the spider in question was a “huge huntsman spider” and he could tell something was wrong by the way she reacted. “Yeah, there’s a different tone to her voice when somebody’s actually being bitten by a spider,” he shared. Thankfully the bite wasn't too serious, and Sweeney was able to keep working after taking some medication.

The scene in question takes place on a cliff, and involves Powell's character hurriedly stripping naked in front of Sweeney's character in fear of spiders crawling under his clothes. “Taking your clothes off on the side of a cliff in a hurry is not safe either,” Powell told Variety on at the film's New York premiere on Monday evening. “Nobody talks about that safety issue on set, where I almost died falling off a cliff taking my pants off too fast. But it’s a really fun scene, so it was all worth it.”

“There’s the spider itself, which actually bit me, and that was a whole thing,” added Sweeney, noting that the scene took half of a day to film. “And then we have the part of Glen bending over and me checking to see if there are more spiders. I’m very acquainted with Glen now.”

The two are currently busy promoting their rom-com, which hits theaters on December 22, and all eyes are on them given the many rumors about their electric chemistry, which has been the subject of quite a bit of gossip over the past few months.

However, both Sweeney and Powell have dispelled the rumors, affirming that they're just good friends. “It’s a rom-com,” Sweeney told Variety in August. “That’s what people want! Glen and I don’t really care. We have so much fun together, and we respect each other so much; he’s such a hard worker, and I’m a hard worker."

Powell is clearly one of Sweeney's biggest fans, and he hasn't been shy about singing her praises. “A great rom-com doesn’t survive without great chemistry, and Sydney is the easiest person to have chemistry with,” Powell recently told ET of their much buzzed-about chemistry. “I mean, immediately, it was like we’d known each other forever, and I think anybody that’s been on the set realizes I never get tired of talking to Sydney."

Powell went on to say they “make each other laugh” and called Sweeney “one of the most talented actresses we have." According to the actor, the entire Anyone But You experience felt like a film-within-a-film. “This movie has felt like a rom-com in itself because Sydney is very easy to pretend fall in love with.” (Insert eye emojis here.)
