Madame Web: Sydney Sweeney Talks Spider-Woman Costume ...
Madame Web star Sydney Sweeney recalled her reaction to wearing the Spider-Woman costume for the first time and the work that went into designing it.
“I was in Boston already — we filmed in Boston — and we had like this really cool skin done of our body, so they could get like a full 3D measurement of us. And they showed us sketches, and I was like ‘Oh my god that’s so cool!’ because it had like full 3D sketches of our faces,” Sweeney said during her appearance on the show Hot Ones. “And when I put it on, I truly . . . I felt like a superhero. It was the coolest thing ever.”
Sweeney appears in the Sony’s Spider-Man Universe movie in the key role of Julia Carpenter — aka Spider-Woman — opposite Dakota Johnson in the title role of Madame Web. The character made her Marvel Comics debut during the original Secret Wars storyline in 1984. Tricked into an evil experiment involving spider venom and exotic plants, Carpenter gained the same superpowers as Spider-Man and joined the Wall-Crawler alongside the Avengers during the Secret Wars storyline.
What is Madame Web about?Directed by S.J. Clarkson, the official synopsis for Madame Web reads as follows: “‘Meanwhile, in another universe…’ In a switch from the typical genre, Madame Web tells the standalone origin story of one of Marvel publishing’s most enigmatic heroines. The suspense-driven thriller stars Dakota Johnson as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic in Manhattan who may have clairvoyant abilities. Forced to confront revelations about her past, she forges a relationship with three young women destined for powerful futures . . . if they can all survive a deadly present.”
Madame Web is scheduled to arrive in theaters on February 14.
