The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday (December 4, 2024) condemned the assassination attempt on Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal and criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab for its “failure to maintain law and order” in the State.
At a press conference, BJP MP and spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said Punjab’s financial condition and law and order situation deteriorated considerably after the AAP came to power there, attributing it to an ongoing “internal rift” in the party.
The mismanagement of the State government had resulted in the criminals getting emboldened. The attempt on a former Chief Minister and party president outside the Golden Temple showed to what extent had the situation reached in Punjab, he said.
Quoting media reports, Mr. Trivedi said under the AAP government, investments in Punjab had declined by 80%. The State received ₹23,000 crore in 2021-22 and the figure declined to ₹3,400 last year, said the BJP leader.
