Steel Panther brought glam metal to the masses on the Season 18 premiere of America’s Got Talent, which aired Tuesday.

The veteran band – Michael Starr, Satchel, Stix Zadinia and Spyder – received a standing ovation inside the Pasadena Civic Auditorium for their performance of “Eyes of a Panther” from their 2009 debut album Feel the Steel. (To be fair, the audience had earlier stood up for a break dancer in a dinosaur costume.)

Starr told the panel of celebrity judges that competing on AGT is “the best way to reach so many other people that have never seen us before, and teach them the ways of heavy metal.”

The celebrity judges, including Canada’s Howie Mandel, gave Steel Panther four “yes” votes to put the band through to the next round of competition. Sofía Vergara revealed that Steel Panther had played at her husband Joe Manganiello’s birthday party in December.

Steel Panther kicks off its 22-city U.S. tour on July 13.

Although portrayed as a competiion for undiscovered talent, AGT regularly casts professional performers and brings in competitors from other countries' versions of the Got Talent franchise. The show's much-hyped $1 million prize is also not exactly as it seems – it's paid out over 40 years. (Not surprisingly, most winners choose a lump sum payment in the low six-figures instead.)
