Whether your closet is brimming with western wear or you couldn't give a single "yahoo," it can't be denied that Stampede is a special time of year in our city. During those ten days in July, Calgary's community spirit is unparalleled — maybe because it's fuelled by flapjacks doused in syrup.

The pancake breakfast is one of the most long-standing and ubiquitous Stampede traditions. You can find one in just about every corner of the city, put on by a range of hosts from neighbourhood associations to malls, and breweries to political parties. 

With countless breakfasts taking place, how to choose which ones to hitch your horse at? To help get you started, CBC Calgary has selected some community-driven events, hosted by groups you may want to learn more about or support.

Siksika Nation Stampede Breakfast

Hosted by Siksika Nation Tribal Administration. Live entertainment, vendors and food. Thursday, July 4 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sundance Place Park (98 Sunpark Plaza S.E.)

The Ismaili Muslim Community's 27th Annual Stampede Breakfast

Tour a special photo exhibition, Jamatkhanas in Canada: Architecture, Identity, Community (on display at Headquarters Jamatkhana from July 5-15). Enjoy a breakfast of scrambled eggs, pancakes and bharazi — a twist on pigeon peas, simmered in a coconut sauce and served with freshly baked bread. Deaf & Hear Alberta and the Calgary Association of the Deaf Stampede Breakfast

Almusal (Traditional Filipino Stampede Breakfast)

Experience the warmth of Filipino hospitality with a variety of traditional breakfast dishes. Sunday, July 7 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Pacific Hut Restaurant Parking Lot (3231 17 Ave. S.E.)

Eritrean Stampede Breakfast

Enjoy a traditional Eritrean breakfast with a Stampede twist! Sunday, July 7 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bridgeland Riverside Community Association (917 Centre Ave. N.E.)

Wood's Homes 37th Annual Stampede Breakfast

Wood's Homes provides treatment and support for children, young people, adults and families with mental health needs. Event features a visit from Stampede Royalty, a bouncy castle, games, musical entertainment, and mascot favourites like Harvey the Hound and Ralph the Dog. Best of the East Stampede Breakfast

Enjoy traditional Stampede breakfast fare alongside samplings of international food items at this celebration of Greater Forest Lawn's diverse community.  Brought to you by International Avenue merchants and sponsored by Litco Law. Thursday, July 11 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Unity Park (3111 17 Ave. S.E.)

ARBI Stampede Breakfast

ARBI is a Calgary-based non-profit organization specializing in brain injury and stroke rehabilitation. Enjoy live music from Put the Kettle On and say howdy to the therapy dogs from PALS (Pet Access League Society). Thursday, July 11 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. ARBI Corral (311 Cedar Cres. S.W.)

Parkdale Stampede Breakfast

Donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted, in partnership with the Calgary Food Bank. Entertainment from the Mojolisa Band, Elbow River Camp performers and Calgary Stampede Promotion Committee (line dancing).
