Snow squall warning

WEATHER ALERT
ENVIRONMENT CANADA
*************************
Snow squall warning replaces snow squall watch for:
Stratford - Mitchell - Southern Perth County

Current details:
Snow squalls are expected. Under the snow squall bands, visibilities will be significantly reduced due to the heavy snow combined with blowing snow, and snow will quickly accumulate.

Hazards:
Hazardous whiteout conditions in heavy snow and blowing snow.
Northwesterly winds with gusts up to 80 km/h developing this afternoon.
Total snowfall accumulations of 15 to 30 cm.

Timing:
Beginning this afternoon and lasting into Thursday afternoon.

Discussion:
Snow squalls are developing in the wake of a sharp cold front. Heavy snow from these snow squalls combined with strong winds gusting up to 70 or 80 km/h may result in near blizzard conditions in some areas. Peak intensity for these snow squalls is expected this evening into Thursday morning.

Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Road closures are possible.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
