Shohei Ohtani inched his name closer to history on Tuesday as he connected for his 48th home run of the season, putting him two home runs and stolen bases shy of the coveted 50/50 milestone.

This feat isn’t Ohtani’s biggest priority, and he reiterated this sentiment after finishing Tuesday’s game going just 1-5 against the Miami Marlins in an 11-9 defeat, where he most notably struck out three times, per Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times.

“The homer helped kind of close the gap... But not being able to hit with runners on first and third,” Ohtani added, “that’s something I’m looking back on.”

Ohtani’s biggest struggle at the plate has been his ability to hit with runners in scoring position, as he his hitting just .223 in those opportunities.

The biggest debate surrounding which player should be awarded the NL MVP this season has recently come down to two candidates; Ohtani and New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor.

Ohtani is having quite possibly the greatest season a designated hitter has ever had in baseball history, while Lindor is posting 0.5 fWAR more than Ohtani while playing platinum defense for a playoff hopeful and energetic Mets team.

Kiri Oler of FanGraphs.com discusses if the way Lindor is playing this season would be more valuable to the Dodgers than what Ohtani’s done this year.

As if Bobby Miller’s season couldn’t get any worse, his most recent start featured him lasting just two innings while surrendering four runs to the Marlins, inflating his ERA to a dreadful 8.52.

Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports that Dave Roberts will potentially make a decision on what to do with Miller, noting that he’s had enough chances to perform effectively this year post-injury.

“I’ve talked about performance at this point and time of the year is everything,” Roberts said. “We’ve certainly given him opportunities to right the ship so I think we’re going to circle up and we’ll make that decision possibly tomorrow.”

Dave Roberts talked about the possibility of Tony Gonsolin returning to the Dodgers as a bullpen arm in the postseason, per Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.

“If that’s where we’re at, that’s what we’ll do,” Roberts said. “Whatever gives us the best chance to win a particular game is what we’re gonna do.”
