The Kamloops area is under a severe thunderstorm watch Friday.

Environment Canada issued the notice just before 11 a.m., warning that conditions are favourable for thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging winds and torrential rain. The watch is in effect for a wide area including Kamloops, Merritt, Cache Creek and Lillooet.

“Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road,” the notice reads.

“Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.”

A high of 33 C is expected Friday in Kamloops, followed by highs of 32 C and 33 C on Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures in the high 20s expected to start next week.
