There's more than just heat on the way for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent. Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning alongside the heat warning that has been in place for much of the week.

According to the agency, a line of severe thunderstorms is located from LaSalle to east of Arkwood and is nearly stationary.

"Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads," Environment Canada warns.

"Take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop."

The region could receive between 50 and 75 mm of rainfall and wind gusts of up to 90 km/h.

Temperatures have soared to 34 C in Windsor-Essex this week, as the region is under a "heat dome." Daytime highs could reach between 30 C and 35 C on Thursday, the agency warns, and with the humidex temperatures could feel as high as 45.
