Yesterday’s draw with Genoa was a stark reminder for Inter Milan that they can’t take anything for granted in their efforts to retain the Serie A title.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Inter certainly went into the opening weekend of the Serie A season as the favourites to lift the title when all is said and done.

And in truth, one result was never going to change that.

Inter won the title in dominant fashion last time around. And as their city rivals AC Milan’s draw against Torino illustrated, the chasing pack have a fair bit of work to do catching up.

The Nerazzurri had in fact drawn away to Genoa last season as well.

The trip to the Marassi had been one of relatively few occasions in which Inter had dropped points across the whole campaign.

So Inter certainly weren’t going to underestimate a fixture that they’ve failed to win since 2020.

Still, the failure to take three points – and the circumstances of the result – are a stern warning.

It’s a very early result that Inter have an entire season to recover from.

But the Nerazzurri won’t be taking anything for granted after another bitter away trip to Liguria.
