HIGH FIVE

The Senators will try to extend their season-high four-game winning streak to five straight as they face the Flames.

The previous time the Senators won five in a row was last season. The club went unbeaten from March 23-30. That may be surprising, but this stretch is a lot more meaningful.

The Senators sat in the second wild-card spot in the East heading into Wednesday night’s action and it would be a good start to this nine-game trip if they were able to peel off their second straight win on the road.

Ottawa scored a 3-0 victory over the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday night to start this trip. The club will begin a five-day holiday break after facing the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday night at Rogers Place Arena.

FLAMING HOT

This will be the second and final game of the season between these two teams.

The Senators scored a 4-3 victory over the Flames on Nov. 25 at home with backup Anton Forsberg making 24 stops in the win.

Drake Batherson, Ridly Greig and defenceman Jake Sanderson all had two-point efforts in that game.

With 30 saves against the Kraken and a 3-0 shutout against the Carolina Hurricanes on the road on Friday, Linus Ullmark became the third goalie in franchise history to record back-to-back shutouts on the road.

Damian Rhodes and Craig Anderson both completed that feat twice, which means it’s the fifth time it has occurred in Senators history.

The Flames are coming off a 4-3 overtime loss to the Boston Bruins on Tuesday at home. Calgary went into Wednesday night sitting in the final wild-card spot in the West.

LEADING THE WAY

Centre Shane Pinto has found his scoring touch with three goals in the club’s past three games.

He scored the opening goal against the Kraken and had a two-goal effort in Carolina on Friday.

The Senators have a 14-2-0 record when they score the first goal and play with a lot more confidence in that situation. The club is 2-11-2 when the opponent scores the opening goal.

With a two-point effort against the Flames, Ottawa alternate captain Claude Giroux can move into a tie with former Calgary winger Theoren Fleury for No. 68 all-time in scoring with 1,088 points in his career.
