HARRISBURG, Ill. (KFVS) - A southern Illinois town celebrates a mythical creature this weekend.

The 4th annual Shawnee Sasquatch Festival is being held on Saturday, October 5, in Harrisburg.

The event runs from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. in downtown Harrisburg.

The free event features a “Run Like a Sasquatch 5K’ and a Sasquatch Calling contest for both kids and adults.

Free carnival rides are also going to be available.

Harrisburg Mayor John McPeek says the festival is a fun and interesting way to draw people to town.

The festival will also include live music, a car show, and a roundtable discussion with Sasquatch experts.
