Shortly after 3 p.m., the city in a statement said crews “have identified the problem and are working hard to restore power as quickly as possible.”
According to the city, Saskatoon Light and Power confirmed the problem area was in the northwest of the service zone.
By 3:30 p.m., power was being restored neighbourhood by neighbourhood, first in affected areas in Grosvenor Park, Varsity View, Nutana and College Park.
The temperature at the time the outage was first reported was 2 C — a drastic change from recent days, when the windchill dipped below -30 C.
SaskPower on Twitter said it was “aware of an outage affecting customers in the city of Saskatoon. This is (serviced) by Saskatoon Light and Power.”
