Ravindra Jadeja follows Virat and Rohit, retires from T20I cricket

Indian men’s cricket team all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja announced his retirement from T20 International cricket on Sunday. The decision followed India’s T20 World Cup 2024 win on Saturday

India beat South Africa by seven runs in the final at the Kensington Oval in Barbados to lift the T20 World Cup trophy for the second time. Captain Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli announced their retirement from the format within hours of the victory.

Jadeja followed suit a little later, announcing his decision on social media.

“With a heart full of gratitude, I bid farewell to T20 internationals. Like a steadfast horse galloping with pride, I’ve always given my best for my country and will continue to do so in other formats,” Jadeja wrote on Instagram.

“Winning the T20 World Cup was a dream come true, a pinnacle of my T20 International career. Thank you for the memories, the cheers, and the unwavering support. Jai hind,” he added.

Ravindra Jadeja has played 74 T20Is for India. Having made his T20I debut against Sri Lanka in Colombo in 2009, the 35-year-old has scored 515 runs at a strike rate of 127.16 and has scalped 54 wickets, possessing an economy of 7.13.

He also started every match in India’s unbeaten T20 World Cup 2024 campaign in the West Indies and the USA.

However, he had a subdued outing at the World Cup and faced just 22 deliveries in five innings, scoring 35 runs. Jadeja also picked up one wicket after bowling 14 overs in the tournament and maintaining an economy rate of 7.57.

The senior all-rounder, however, will continue to play ODI and Test cricket like his teammates Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
