Ravens vs Chiefs: Thursday Night Football picks and open thread
The 2024-25 NFL season is here!
NBC’s Thursday Night Football kicks off tonight at 8:20 p.m. EST as the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs host the Baltimore Ravens at Arrowhead Stadium.
The Chiefs are 3-point favorites, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, and the total is 47.5 points.
I like Kansas City to start strong in its quest to become the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls. Andy Reid is always good with extra time to prepare for a game — he’s 9-1 straight up and 7-3 against the spread in home openers in the last decade — and his team has more continuity from last year than the visitors. Baltimore lost some key pieces on the offensive line plus defensive coordinator Mike MacDonald in the offseason.
I’m also confident that the Chiefs offense will be more explosive in 2024 after adding Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy. Similar to Brian Thomas Jr. in Jacksonville, Kansas City should greatly benefit from speedsters spacing the field. And while Lamar Jackson is deserving of his two regular season MVPs, Patrick Mahomes is in his own category.
