The Pride flag will be raised at Kawartha Lakes City Hall on June 6 at 9am, prior to the Committee of the Whole meeting which begins at 10am. The public are invited to attend the flag raising.

As Pride season approaches, Mayor Doug Elmslie expressed his support, saying, "I'm proud to stand alongside our amazing community as we celebrate Pride. It's a time to embrace diversity, love, and acceptance, and make sure everyone feels valued and respected. Let's come together, show inclusivity, and honor the courage and strength of our LGBTQ2S+ friends and neighbors. Together, we can build a future where everyone can be true to themselves."

The Kawartha Lakes Public Library (KLPL) is hosting a variety of Pride themed events throughout the month. There will be special Pride Storytimes on Saturday June 14, and Thursday June 29 from 10:30am to 11am at the Lindsay branch. Join us for songs, rhymes, and stories celebrating giving kindness to others and the colours of the rainbow. This event is geared for preschoolers, their parents and caregivers.

All library branches will be offering a Pride flag craft during the month of June and into the beginning of July. Anyone who participates is encouraged to colour their flag, then put it up in a window somewhere to make everyone feel welcome in our community.

KLPL has material for all ages to learn about and celebrate the culture, history and life experience of LGBTQ2S+ communities. Check out their Pride collection, including both print and ebook options. KLPL will also be hosting a “Show Some Pride (LGBTQ2S+ books)” themed book club at the Pie Eyed Monk Brewery in Lindsay on June 21. For more information and to register for the book club, contact the Library at [email protected].

Follow Kawartha Lakes Pride’s Facebook page to stay tuned for events during the month of July.

Note: The Pride flag is traditionally raised on the first business day closest to June 1. In 2023, the BGC Kawarthas Club Day flag was raised on June 2, BGC Club Day, to celebrate the contributions of this organization to our youth.

The Pride flag is being raised June 6 to accommodate this recognition.
