Widespread power outages hit north London Friday | CBC News

Thousands of London homes in the north end of the city were without power Friday after a collision near Western and Windermere roads.

Traffic was crawling at intersections from Masonville, east to Huron Heights and south to Oxford Street, with police telling drivers to avoid the area around noon. 

London Hydro spokesperson Nancy Hutton said that repair crews estimated it would take several hours to restore power, and indeed pockets of power were slowing being reinstated into the afternoon. 

The collision knocked out multiple hydro poles which were connected to feeder lines, explaining the wide-spread nature of the outage, Hutton said.

London Police said the cause was the result of one truck hitting the poles. No one was injured but police had blocked off the area due to live wires. 

The Internet has also been impacted. Fanshawe College said it had no connection, while King's at Western University also posted to social media saying the same is true on their campus.
