Post Malone is the bringer of gas station glam

Post Malone

Post Malone is going all-in with this country thing. Ever since the Beerbongs & Bentleys artist announced his sixth studio album F-1 Trillion (which also happens to be his first album as a full country singer), his entire aura has completely changed. And this was made even more obvious during his appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards on Long Island last night.

Call it truckercore or gas station glam, it's western workwear with a bit of dirtbag shine. While Malone was up on stage accepting the ‘Best Collaboration’ award with Taylor Swift, the rapper rocked a white vest, and he layered it with a beige blazer that was covered in floral embroidery and hundreds and hundreds of shiny crystals. He then jumped into some blue denim jeans and a pair of ostrich skin boots, and he threw on a feathered trucker cap. Y'know, the kinda hat that you'd find in the souvenir section of any rest stop along the sides of Route 66, but elevated.

The Hapa Blonde

It had the same raw energy rom his “White Iverson” days, but it was mixed with the sexiness of Blake Shelton and the blinginess of Dolly Parton (two artists who'll be featuring in F-1 Trillion, FYI).

Plus, if you squint your eyes and look closer at the fit, you'll also spot a belt from Chrome Hearts. Like most very famous guys, Posty's always been a big fan of the Hollywood-based jewellery brand. But for this particular piece, he's mashed it up with a leopard print strap, which seems to take inspo from the sorta stuff that's worn by other country legends like Lainey Wilson, Shania Twain, and now, Beyoncé.

Besides, American western workwear has never been bigger. People want to look like Lana Del Rey, or the guys she sings about. That means electing for genuine OGs like Carhartt and Stetson and Wrangler, or new gen, culty homage brands like Cherry LA. So when red carpets demand something with a little more gloss, you add glitz to the staples, and thus, gas station glam comes into being. And no-one is doing it better, or harder, than Post Malone.
