Patrick Kane scored twice in the Detroit Red Wings’ five-goal first-period outburst Friday that staked them to a four-goal lead before the Philadelphia Flyers stormed back to take it away.

Kane then scored the shootout winner to give the Red Wings a wild 7-6 victory at Little Caesars Arena.

The Red Wings (16-13-4) made it more difficult than it had to be, but they snapped a four-game losing streak.

It is the second time this month the Red Wings have squandered a four-goal cushion. They lost 6-5 in overtime to San Jose on Dec. 7 after jumping out to a 4-0 lead.

This time, Dylan Larkin tied it at 6-6 with 4:30 remaining in the third period on a shot from behind the goal line that found an opening between goaltender Carter Hart and the post. It was his 12th goal.

Lucas Raymond also scored in the shootout for Detroit, which had lost four in a row to the Flyers (18-11-4). It was the Red Wings’ first shootout this season.

Kane also picked up an assist and has three consecutive multi-point games. He has seven points (three goals, four assists) during this stretch. His linemate, Alex DeBrincat, racked up three assists.

Daniel Sprong, J.T. Compher and Shayne Gostisbehere also scored goals. Raymond and Moritz Seider each had a pair of assists.

James Reimer (3-5-2) made 37 saves and denied both shootout attempts for his first win since Oct. 22.

The Red Wings were 1-6-1 in their previous eight.

Kane scored the game’s first two goals. He banged in the rebound of Larkin’s shot that went off the post at 4:30. Then he tucked the puck in the net at 8:16 after it deflected off DeBrincat’s skate.

Bobby Brink responded for the Flyers by scoring on a two-on-one at 9:00 before the Red Wings broke it open with three goals in a span of 4:37.

Sprong made it 3-1 on the power play at 15:05 with his eighth goal, tapping in a pass from Seider.

Compher cleaned up in the crease at 15:38 with his seventh goal.

Gostisbehere capped the surge at 19:42 with his sixth goal, tapping in the rebound off the back boards of Kane’s shot.

It’s the first time the Red Wings have scored five goals in the first period since Dec. 8, 2011, in a 5-2 victory over the Coyotes.

The Flyers didn’t fold, however, scoring three times on net-front deflections to cut the deficit to 5-4 – Sean Couturier (3:37) and Morgan Frost (4:01) in the second period and Garnett Hathaway (5:51) in the third.

Laughton tied scored on a rebound with 6:30 remaining to tie it. Tippett then cleaned up in the crease after his own shot slipped between Reimer’s pads and gave the Flyers their first lead, 6-5, with 5:07 to play.

The Red Wings lost defenseman Olli Maatta to an upper-body injury in the first period after a hit from Hathaway.
