“The Color Purple” reboot has already spawned a craze for violet shades thanks to Winfrey. “OK, y’all have seen the trailer, and I’m giving you six months to get your outfit together for opening day,” Winfrey said in an Instagram video last year. “All things purple.”

Several designers including Prabal Gurung, Altuzarra and LaQuan Smith helped drive the purple trend in 2023, sending lilac, lavender and mauve hues down the runway. The trend has also taken off on the red carpet, with several stars following Winfrey’s directive at the film’s world premiere in Los Angeles.
