Nowruz is a Persian or Iranian new year which will be celebrated on 21 March 2023, Tuesday. The festival is based on the Iranian Solar Hijri calendar, on the spring equinox (for the northern hemisphere) which is on 21 March of the Gregorian calendar. Meanwhile, the Parsi community of India will celebrate this festival in August, according to the Shahenshahi calendar. History and Significance
Historically, the day of Nowruz has been observed in the Middle East and parts of Asia even though it has its origins in the Iranian religion of Zoroastrianism and is thus rooted in the traditions of the Iranian peoples. Under the Zoroastrian tradition, Nowruz marks as the return of the spring spirit over the dark and evil spirit of winter. As per some of the beliefs, the origin of Nowrus can also be credited to the the mythical Iranian King Jamshid, who saved the mankind from a winter that was destined to kill all the living creaturs. According to the records, King Jamshid constructed a throne studded with gems and the demons rose him above the earth into the heavens, where he sat like a shining sun. Later the world's creatures gathered and scattered jewels around him and proclaimed that this was the new day (Now Ruz). This day is also considered as the he first day of Farvardin, which is the first month in the Iranian calender.
