Bill Skarsgård's Count Orlok Obsesses Over Lily-Rose Depp in ...
The gothic film will arrive on Christmas Day
Lily-Rose Depp‘s Ellen Hutter shrieks as an undead hand clutches her neck in the new Nosferatu trailer, setting the creepy tone for the Robert Eggers’ horror film, which arrives on Christmas Day. “Does evil come from within us or from beyond?” she asks.
The film from The Lighthouse and The Witch writer and director follows haunted young woman Ellen Hutter and a vampire’s strong infatuation with her. Throughout the nearly two-minute trailer, townspeople begin to sense an evil approaching the town, that evil being Bill Skarsgård’s Count Orlok also known as Nosferatu. Dramatic imagery of children screaming, rats flooding the streets, and townspeople carrying coffins fill the trailer as darkness looms. Skarsgård, known for his uncanny Pennywise in the It horror franchise, is rarely seen in the teaser. In recent years, Skarsgård also starred in Barbarian, John Wick: Chapter 4, Boy Kills World, and will lead an adaptation of The Crow, which arrives in August.
TrendingDepp’s portrayal of Ellen Hutter marks her return to the screen following her leading role in Sam Levinson’s The Idol. Last year, Rolling Stone reported that the HBO series — “billed as a darker, crazier, and more risqué” version of Euphoria — was plagued with delays, reshoots, and dubbed a “rape fantasy” by a production member. (The series was canceled after its first season.)
Nosferatu, a recreation of the F.W. Murnau’s 1922 fantasy horror of the same name, also stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass) as Friedrich Harding, Willem Dafoe (Poor Things) as the professor, Nicholas Hoult (The Menu) as Thomas Hutter, Emma Corrin (The Crown) as Anna Harding, and Ralph Ineson (The Witch) as Dr. Wilhelm Sievers.
