We discuss the ending of the Netflix film Mission Majnu which will contain spoilers.

For the most part, Mission Majnu is engaging, but it does lose its steam towards the middle. The setup at the beginning of the opposing countries and what they’ve been fighting for was compelling.

Then as we meet the love interests it becomes wholesome and sweet. The family dynamic is the most interesting aspect at first because her father doesn’t want her to marry the tailor. She doesn’t care about his occupation so she does marry him in spite of what her father said.

Once she gets pregnant, he has flashbacks to his own father and wonders if the same fate is waiting for him because he is an undercover agent himself. Unfortunately, the performances weren’t that strong to carry the film or to even make the second half of this film as engaging as it should have been.

It’s a true story that felt a bit empty because the love shared between the two of them wasn’t believable. The writing was also a bit generic and went through the motions for a historical story. It is a story that did need to be told but could have been executed in a better way.

Tariq and Nasreen are trying to leave the country amidst the war between India and Pakistan. There have been murders and the next step is to use other weapons to fight. Nasreen is heavily pregnant now and Tariq tries his best to get her and the baby out of the country safely. He also has a target on his back and he can’t seem to shake it.

He went out of his way to get passports made so they would be able to sneak through customs without getting caught. In the end, once they pass the final gate, Tariq has a gut feeling that he won’t be able to make it. So he tells Nasreen what he hoped to name their child before he leaves her. Men and women have to travel separately and that’s exactly why he’s nervous.

Right as he leaves her, the cops at the gate somehow recognize her and go after her. As they run over to her, Tariq says that he’s Indian, and the Pakistani cops leave his wife and go attack him. So to save his wife and his baby, he distracts the cops.

Simultaneously, we see Nasreen go on the plane and settle in, while Tariq is running through the airport trying to dodge the cops. Unfortunately, he doesn’t outrun them and he gets shot multiple times while he thought he was hiding from them.

In the end, Nasreen is waiting patiently outside as a friend of Tariq’s meets her there. He reads her a letter from Tariq saying that he did pass away and that he will always be with her. And he shares his real identity with her in the final moments.
